Frequently Asked Questions
For direct access to your TD Ameritrade accounts only, click on the green TD login icon at the top of this page, and then from that page, click on the Get Started button. To setup access to our consolidated Client Web Portal, please contact the office and we will be happy to establish that for you.
From either the TD Ameritrade or Client Web Portal login pages, click on the forgotten password link.
Of course. Assuming you have setup online account access for your TD Ameritrade accounts, your account statements are always available for you to view online by clicking the My Accounts tab, and then selecting the Statements link from the drop-down menu. If, at any point in time, you decide you would like to discontinue receiving paper statements in the mail, visit the Client Services tab and then select the User ID settings link. Note that our Client Web Portal statements are only available electronically.
Is there a way to stop receiving the prospectuses and shareholder communications from investment companies?
These are required by law to be delivered to clients periodically; however, they are sent electronically for clients who have selected the no-paper statements option. Unfortunately, there is no way to receive electronic shareholder communications while still receiving paper statements.
The Retirement Planning Specialists is a FEE ONLY SEC-registered investment advisor. This means our compensation is fully transparent and comes directly from our clients and not from any outside third party. In other words, we work for our clients – and only our clients – and this reduces or eliminates many potential conflicts of interest that exist at other firms which charge commissions or a mix of fees and commissions.
Yes. We are a fully fiduciary firm in all matters relating to our clients for ALL accounts. It is important to note that many firms, including most large brokerage firms (or “wirehouses”), are fiduciaries only with respect to retirement accounts but not with respect to non-retirement accounts. This is very important as it means they may be acting as fiduciaries when dealing with a retirement account, but as salespeople when dealing with non-retirement accounts. The Retirement Planning Specialists and its investment advisor representatives are fiduciaries with respect to all clients and all accounts.

We do not take custody of any client funds, and are prohibited from doing so. Most client assets are held through our primary custodian, TD Ameritrade Institutional. For some specific types of investments or accounts (e.g., 529 college savings plans), we may use other custodians. These other custodians account for less than 5% of the assets we manage.
Not at all. We are happy to meet with prospective clients at no cost and with no obligation to review their situation, provide a second opinion, and explore if and how we may be able to be of service.
Feel free to bring documents or statements related to anything you would specifically like to discuss. While it’s not required that you bring anything to our meeting, it’s often helpful to have (or at least be able to discuss) an outline of your overall financial picture. If it’s easier to just bring statements, that’s fine too.
For clients located in the Denver Metro area, we meet with them at our office in Greenwood Village, Colorado.
Absolutely. We have clients in 27 states and for many of these clients, we use phone, Skype, and other online communication tools to meet with them virtually.
